Payzium vs Moneris

Moneris is the largest processor in Canada and the most expensive way to take credit cards if you're a smaller merchant. Here's the math.

Last updated: May 19, 2026

where Moneris is actually the right call

Moneris has the broadest distribution in Canada and the deepest enterprise fraud tools. If you're running multi-location operations with $1M+/month in volume, you're already negotiating Simplified Pricing, and the math may work for you. If you're a single-location SMB on Moneris Flat Rate (2.65% + 10¢), you're paying for infrastructure you don't need.

the math at $40,000/month, 800 transactions

$827 vs $580. Same volume, same transactions, different rate structure.

Moneris Flat Rate

  • Processing (credit): 2.65% × $28,000 + 10¢ × 560 tx = $798/mo
  • Processing (Interac debit): 10¢ × 240 tx = $24/mo
  • Merchant account: $4.95/mo
  • Total: $827/mo

Payzium wholesale-plus

  • Processing (credit): ~1.91% × $28,000 + 5¢ × 560 tx = $563/mo
  • Processing (Interac debit): 5¢ × 240 tx = $12/mo
  • Merchant account: $5/mo
  • Total: $580/mo

Monthly savings with Payzium: about $247. Annual: about $2,964. Plus you stop paying any future rate adjustments your current processor sends.

assumes 70/30 credit/debit mix by volume, $50 average ticket, 800 transactions; Moneris Flat Rate at 2.65% + 10¢ on credit, 10¢ flat per Interac debit, plus the $4.95/month Account Service Package on standard plans; Payzium effective credit rate (~1.91%) = typical Canadian SMB interchange (~1.50%) + assessments (~0.11%) + 0.30% margin, plus 5¢ per credit tx, 5¢ flat per Interac debit tx, $5/month merchant account; varies by actual card mix. Pure processing comparison; terminal hardware not included on either side.

Moneris bills hardware separately on most Flat Rate accounts, typically through a terminal lease. We don't include hardware in our processing-cost comparison because hardware pricing depends on your specific plan and whether you bought your terminal outright versus leasing it. We'll cover hardware comparisons on a dedicated page (coming soon).

if your agreement has an early termination fee

If your current agreement has an early termination fee, Pay Less or It's Free covers up to $1,000 of it.

Some merchant agreements with any processor include early termination fees. If your Moneris agreement has one, switching to Payzium may trigger that fee. We've built coverage for it into our guarantee. Pay less or it's free covers up to $1,000 of that ETF. If yours is over $1,000, we'll still cover the first $1,000, you cover the gap.
